Purple Day- March 26- Thursday!

On March 26th, Thursday, is Purple Day. This is a day that is devoted to increasing the awareness of Epilepsy across the globe!

As many of you out there already know, I have Epilepsy and suffer tonic clonic (gran mal) seizures. You can learn more about these seizures through Wikipedia or through the Epilepsy Website. With the care of my doctors, we are trying to establish a good medication regime so I don't suffer as many as I have been in the last little while. I believe we are making some good steps forward even though my last episode may have seemed a setback but in reality, it was a learning experience for all involved. I may be battered and fatigued but lessons were learned...

Michele in Hospital

"When I wake up from my seizures, and feel as if every muscle is torn from my bones, there is that fine line of disappointment when you don't know if you really are happy to see the light of Emergency Room or if you would rather be gazing into the warm glow of Heaven"
-Michele J-

Epilepsy and seizure disorders are often misunderstood and even though it can be frightening to an onlooker, it really does not have to be!
I have people often ask me "What is Epilepsy?" "What should I do if I see someone having a seizure?" "Should I put a spoon in their mouth so they don't bite their tongue?" "Is Epilepsy contagious?"

These are all acceptable questions and that's why we have Purple Day. So that this can help with some of these questions and to help those become aware of Epilepsy out there.
I cannot stress how many friendships I have lost and still continue to lose because they "are afraid I will have a seizure when I'm around them."

So for this day, March 26, please wear something PURPLE to show your support for Epilepsy Day around the World.
I thank all those special blogger friends that have been supporting this cause by displaying the badge and/or posting.
Thank YOU! ♥♥

Unbelievable photos of beauty - including you - the picture of a warrior in battle.

You have an amazing gift for photography. Thanks for sharing it with us.

I have a friend with epilepsy and can't imagine how anyone would leave a friendship over such a thing. I hope I AM around her when she has one so I can HELP! My cousin had a grand mal seizure in 5th grade and was in a coma for 3 days. But he outgrew all the seizures at puberty. So sorry you have to struggle with this and I will be praying they find the right meds/treatment to stop these.

God bless you and (((hugs))) from across the miles.

My brother also has Epilepsy and has suffered from it as well. I hope you feel better soon and teh medication routine they work for you helps. Take care.

I came over from The Fishing Guy's blog about Epilepsy, a tribute to you. He is a special friend to us all.
Just wanted to let you know you are thought about during this recovery time. And hoping it will be a quick one and that they will be able to find the medecine that will help you live a more pleasant life with this terrible disease.

I most certainly will wear purple. I had no idea about this until I read your blog. Thanks for sharing!

You really look like you have had a tough time of it on the photo. Such a differense to the sweet and smily picture up top. To have lost friends because of your illness is a really cruel fate in my book. I cannot say how bad I feel because of that.
Your words under your picture made me so sad my friend. So very sad. I selfishly hope that you shall recover with the right medication to an acceptable level so that we all can enjoy your amazing photography in times to come. Of course I mostly wish that for your own sake and your husband's too.

I unfortunately own nothing purple to wear but I will see if I can find any purple picture and I will then post that on my blog tomorrow with the words telling it is for epilepsy awareness day.

With blessings and hugs
Tarolino

I have tears in my eyes; I can’t believe friends would turn their back on you just because you have Epilepsy; you are so much more than an illness and have a lot of life to live.

The photos of the purple sky and flowers are very well done! I will wear purple tomorrow in honor of you and others.

Mchele, you are a wonderful woman. I fully know the feeling of not wanting to come back. After my last heart op I was quite resentful to have been sent back. Having that heightened sense of awareness I brought back with me I did not want to lose it. It faded again in about a year, but I still remember the sense of wonderful connectedness to other souls.

VALKYRIEN said...

It was Torelino who brought my attention to what you are going through. I have visited your blog from time to time - but didn't realize you have epilepsy.

I cannot believe what I am reading, when you say you have lost friends beacause of your illness. That is cruel and in my book not friends. I understand you are going through a tough time now - and can only send you my best wishes for your recovery.

I don't have anything purple to wear - but I have made a little post on my blog (linking to you) with a purple flower to you!

All the best wishes from Norway!
